Recently, on Friday, February 8, Kentuck Elementary School third, fourth, and fifth grade students participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The students were given words to spell from materials prepared by the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. Students displayed knowledge learned throughout their school experience while competing for top honors. Maci Nuckles, a fifth grader, claimed first place and Asher Fox, a fourth grader, was the second place winner. The following students also earned their way into the final round of the school spelling bee: Hayley Shumate, Makayla Edmonds, Colton Sinclair, Mallory Terry, Daniel Howerton, Katie Evans, Kayleigh Durham, Lexi Atkins, Samara Allen-Dark, Terrell Bradley, Zane Richardson, and Alyssa Lyles. Maci and Asher will participate in the Danville Area Spelling Bee, which will be held at Averett University on Saturday, March 16, 2019.
